Review
Keep the snow, dust and grit out of your trail running shoes with the Altra Trail Gaiters. I was looking for gaiters which would fit my Altra Lone Peak 4.0 perfectly and when I saw that Altra made their own for their shoes it was a no-brainer.
Why Altra Gaiters?
Designed to fit perfectly with Altra trail runners, the front and rear gaiter traps on the shoes are perfectly positioned for them.
How well do they work?
I’ve hiked the Rota Vicentina and the Pacific Crest Trail in these. The Rota Vicentina is 90% sand and if hiking the PCT northbound you’ll be starting in the desert. The Altra gaiters kept 95% of the grit and dirt out of my shoes and I very rarely needed to stop and empty my shoes of debris.
What’s there not to like?
The more popular brand, Dirty Girl gaiters are better quality and I’ve heard they’re more durable and they also come in an assortment of designs and colours, but sadly I can’t see them available here in the UK. Bit of a walled garden with the Altra gaiters and the stitching is quite delicate, but they’re designed to fit my Lone Peaks effectively.
Value for money
£20 is quite steep for these little flaps of fabric, but while they don’t save your pennies, they do save you tonnes of hiking time by drastically reducing stopping time to empty your old dogs of dirt.
