Review
I’ve hiked a lot of miles and chafing is just one of those inevitable things that comes with the activity. I spent years hiking and chafing in those awkward places until a friend of mine told me about Body Glide anti-chafe stick. At first, I was sceptical, no ointment could possibly stop the chafe. I was totally wrong.
Why Body Glide?
So many hikers online have it as part of their kit list and for good reason. Body Glide is small, lightweight, 100% vegan and very effective. For chafing in those awkward places, to protect your feet from blisters, or simply to keep your skin moisturised on-trail. This little stick has so much value for its weight and for the money.
How well does it work?
As I said, I was sceptical at first because chafing on a thru-hike is such a prevalent issue. But seriously, slap a wipe or two of this in those awkward high-chafe areas and you’ll immediately notice the contact of your skin feel silky smooth and chafe-free. It lasts all day too. On the Rota Vicentina and Pacific Crest Trail I’d lube up on a single application in the morning just before breaking down camp and I wouldn’t need to re-apply until after my morning wet wipe wash.
What’s there not to like?
While on the Body Glide website it states “never greasy, always dry” I did find the texture to still be slightly greasy. You can tell it’s there, but it’s very light and not a bother. But still, a bit greasy.
What’s the difference between this and the women’s version?
They’re exactly the same except the women’s version contains more moisturisers such as coconut and almond oil and is slightly more expensive. I might actually give the women’s version a go, I’d rather have more moisturisers.
Value for money
It’s a shame that it’s so much more expensive over here in the UK. On Amazon here, it starts at £17, but on the Body Glide website, it’s just $7.99 for the 22g travel size. I hope they start stocking it here soon. Still, it’s worth spending the extra cash, especially if you’re serious about long-distance hiking and want to hike in as much comfort as possible. It’s worth the money and worth the weight.
