Review

When on the trail, carrying any down equipment such as a quilt brings with it the concern of keeping it dry and stowed away properly, so why the HMG DCF Pod from Hyperlite Mountain Gear?

Why the HMG DCF pod?

When I purchased my 2400 Windrider backpack Hyperlite Mountain Gear had a sale on for all of their pods. After taking a look I saw they’d be a great way to store my quilt in a container that is specifically designed to fit the shape of the backpack. The pack was also seam sealed so I didn’t feel the need to have a full pack liner. The DCF Pod was thee perfect purchase.

How well does it work?

I kept my quilt in the DCF pod for hundreds of miles while hiking here in the UK on hikes such as the South Downs Way and also while I went travelling around South East Asia and trekking to Everest Base Camp and it kept my quilt dry, clean and safe the entire way. I never had an issue with the pod and it was definitely a good purchase. Over some som thread did start coming loose around the taped seams, but the pod is still waterproof.

Value for money

$50 is a pretty hefty price tag, but it comes down to the trade-off between using a cheap rubble sack which isn’t shaped to the design of your pack or having something lighter and more fitted.
