Charging electronics on a hike can be a pain. But there are some chargers out there which offer super-fast charging without sacrificing too much bulk and weight and the Insignia 30W 3-port USB adaptor is one of them. After testing over 200 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail, I thought I’d tell you how it went!
Why the Insignia 30W 3-port USB adaptor?
While it’s not the smallest, smaller chargers don’t pack as much punch and at just 92g with 3X 30W USB ports, this adaptor works really well for me and my objectives on the trail. Being a YouTuber, I need to charge more than most hikers because of extra camera equipment, batteries and extra phone usage. This little charger can pump my iPhone 11 Pro Max full of juice in an hour and a half. It will charge my 20,000mah power bank in around 2 and a half hours and everything else in less than 40 minutes.
What’s there not to like?
Just the size and weight could do with being trimmed down, so if you’re hiking in the USA and you’re looking at shaving those ounces, definitely go for this a 2x USB charger which is actually tiny.
Value for money
For just $29.99 you get fast charging, 3 ports and a good quality product, except there’s a bit of a weight addition with this charger, it’s a shame our plugs here in the UK are so huge! That said, the smaller you go, the price doesn’t vary much and you’ll be getting longer wait times, but you are of course getting a much better weight saving. The choice is yours.
