Review

Being a YouTuber and a hiker it’s important to select camera gear that’s lightweight, compact and durable. So why the Joby Gorilla Pod 1K?

Why the Joby Gorilla Pod1K?

Mainly for the easy-to-use universal screw which sits on top of a stainless steel ball joint which makes it even easier to get the right angle or to quickly switch from portrait to landscape mode. It’ll also hold up to 1kg so it’s perfect for my Canon M50 which is pretty hefty.

How well does it work?

For a tripod this size and weight it works brilliantly and fits my Canon M50 on the top just fine. I used it on most of my shorter walks, but due to its size and the fact I wouldn’t take the M50 on a much longer walk I’ve only used this on walks no more than 3 days long.

What’s there not to like?

After some thorough testing in the field, dust can dirt can accumulate in the joints of the legs and make them very stiff and difficult to manoeuvre.

Value for money

For a high-quality portable tripod which is this strong and capable, easy to use and has the stainless steel ball joint head £34 is just about right. I’m sure there are cheaper solutions out there, but because it fits my Canon M50 so well and the I’ve never had to replace it, it’s been worth the money for me.
