Review

It’s important to bring a map and compass on your thru-hikes, not just for your own safety, but for others as well. So why the Silva Field compass?

Why Silva Field?

It’s a very simple, compact compass which has every feature you need to be able to set a bearing, adjust for declaration and orientate your map without being too big. Perfect for a thru-hiker on a well-graded trail to navigate in case they come off the route or visibility gets low. There were moments on the Pacific Crest Trail where if my iPhone 11 Pro Max failed I’d have definitely needed to set a bearing and draw it on the map.

Value for money

At £13 it’s about right for a compass with all these features that’s durable, compact and lightweight.
