Review

Before starting the Pacific Crest Trail I needed a new pair of gloves to cope with the wintry conditions starting that early in the season. So why the Salomon Fast Wings?

Why the Salomon Fast Wings?

I purchased these gloves in the REI store in San Diego after looking for a glove which was lightweight and that would cut the wind and rain. Looking at the stowable over mitts I thought they’d do the job and keep some rain off. They’re also really lightweight and packable which is always a plus.

How well did they work?

If you’re hiking in cold and dry conditions these are fantastic at cutting the wind from your fingers while also adding insulation, but the second they get wet all the warmth gets sucked out of them and you end up with incredibly cold hands.

Value for money

For $12 a pair they’re perfect for those dry and high desert hikes on the PCT, but expect to need an extra pair of much warmer waterproof gloves as a backup should it rain.
