Review
I’ve always gone with the cheapest sunglasses possible for thru-hiking. But when a friend gave me a pair of Sungod Renegade sunglasses as a leaving present, I was amazed at the quality. So, why the Sungod Renegades?
Why Sungod?
The UV protection on these is amazing. I’ve hiked on some really sunny, snowy days in them and the comfort on my eyes is very good.
How durable are they?
The reason I always went with the cheapest sunglasses I could find is that I always either break them or lose them. Luckily the Sungod Renegade held up really well with almost 400 miles of hiking and to stop me losing them, I bought a glasses strap from REI in San Diego before starting the Pacific Crest Trail and I haven’t lost them since. Online, however, many people say Sungod claim their glasses are indestructible which through my experience aren’t. You’ll definitely be wanting to keep these packed in their soft case while they’re in your pack or hip belt pocket to protect the lenses from scratches, they do get scratched up pretty quickly. The frames are very sturdy and durable though!
What’s there not to like?
I’ve been so pleased with these sunglasses, I’ll definitely be buying another pair because of their durable frames and amazing UV protection at a relatively lightweight.
Value for money
While £70 is a lot of money for sunglasses when compared to a pair of cheap Boots ones for under a 10-er, you are getting a good quality product at around half the price of a designer pair. The Sungod Renegade sunglasses are very well-priced for the quality and besides, there’s no way a £140 pair of sunnies is coming with me on a 2,665-mile thru-hike. Good stuff!
