Review

I used the Zpacks utility zip pouch after they sent it in for me to test. I took it on the Rota Vicentina and the Pacific Crest Trail and it went well with my kit setup. So why the Zpacks DCF utility pouch?

Why the Zpacks DCF Utility Pouch?

Zpacks kindly sent me some gear to test and one unexpected bit of kit was the DCF pouch. What I really wanted to use it for is to keep all of my ID and documents in such as my passport and permits. I wanted to keep them dry while also having them to hand when I needed to. So the Utility Pouch offered a lightweight solution.

How well does it work?

All of my documents were kept very dry, although in some heavy downpours the Aquaguard zipper would let a small amount of water through. So just for good measure, place everything like paperwork and your phone into a Ziploc bag inside the utility pouch for good measure.

What’s there not to like?

The only feature I wasn’t too keen on is the comfort of the strap when carrying my phone inside. The weight of the phone would make it quite uncomfortable to wear around my neck. If you place your arm through the hoop first and wear most of the weight on your shoulder you’ll get a more comfortable ride out of it.

Value for money

Spending £30 on a utility pouch is a bit of an investment, but this will be able to keep your things much dryer for longer than ones made from cheaper materials, so you’ll be saving more money in the long-run going for a DCF, seam-taped pouch like this one.
